ADHD Techniques
Students with ADHD are often characterized as off-task, distracted, hyper, or not paying attention. When working with students with ADHD it is critical to remember they are not misbehaving because they enjoy disturbing class, but because they cannot control themselves. This means that punishing them for the behavior will not be effective because they cannot control the way their brains work. It would be like punishing a student with a hearing impairment for not listening to instruction. Therefore, it is important to have techniques developed beforehand to help you and the student create a successful learning environment. These are some techniques I have found useful when dealing with students with ADHD, and also using them myself to help with my own ADHD.
